Hospitality 8-Week Online Course Structure

The Harrah College of Hospitality 8-week online course structure is designed primarily for students who have chosen to be in the Hospitality Management online degree program.

Any student enrolled in a hospitality 8-week online course assumes the following responsibility when enrolling in these courses.

  • Understands that the instructor is covering 16-weeks of materials in just 8-weeks. Instructors will cover two modules of course materials each week. This will require students to have roughly 15 hours per week to dedicate to ONE online course.
  • Understands that you must log into your online course the first day to start to complete the required assignments. Many instructors will have assignments due or quizzes after the first two days.
  • Understands the instructor will require students to submit all assignments by the posted deadline, just like in a 16-week course. An 8-week course will have a fast-pace to it. Therefore, there is no time in an 8-week course for a student to fall behind. Students will need to plan their week accordingly to stay on top of all required assignments as stated in the course syllabus.
  • Withdrawal Deadline for a 100% refund is a very short window. It occurs the Friday before the class starts. Student MUST check their MyUNLV Student Center for specific deadlines for the 8-week online course. This is visible to students prior to the course starting to allow them to plan accordingly.

The college will not allow students to add an 8-week course once the course has started. The college will place a stop enrollment on all 8-week courses the first day of each 8-week session. The reason for this policy is that students cannot be successful after the course has started.

Students who enroll in 8-week online courses must register for both Session I and Session II before the start of the semester to ensure no issues with their Financial Aid. Students who fail to enroll in the courses for the entire semester may have issues with their scholarships and other financial aid dispersement.

  • Enroll in ONE 8-week online course per session.
  • Must have the discipline to juggle the demand of an 8-week online course while also completing 16-week on campus courses, which will have a much different structure.
  • Must be able to be engaged in the online courses at least 4 days out of the seven days in a given week.
  • Enroll in no more than TWO 8-week online courses per session.
  • 8-week course structure allows online students to complete two courses per session for a total of 12 credits per semester, which is a full-time student status.
  • Must be able to be engaged in the online courses at least 4 days out of the seven days in a given week.

8-week online courses are not designed to allow students to take an overload of courses to complete the degree faster.
