Independent Study for Graduate Students

Hospitality graduate students are eligible to register for an independent study course throughout their time in the degree program. An independent study course is a project based course that covers a topic that is not covered in the regular curriculum. Students are responsible for securing a hospitality full-time faculty member to supervise this course.

  • HOA 781: Independent Study – up to 3 credits (Masters) | up to 6 credits (PhD)
  • HOA 782: Independent Study – up to 3 credits (PhD only)
  • MHA 681: Independent Study in Hospitality Administration
  1. Secure Faculty Chair. Students must find a full-time hospitality graduate faculty member to supervise the independent study.
  2. Complete the Independent Study Authorization form via DocuSign.
  3. Wait for permission to enroll. Your form will be reviewed, and if approved, you will receive permission to register for the selected course.
  4. Register promptly once permission is granted, it is your responsibility to register for the course before the start of the term.

Please note: Pre-authorization is required for all independent study courses. No retroactive approvals or late registrations will be permitted.
